On March 15th a new sewalong started featuring Sew Quilty fabric and pattern by Erica Arndt of Confessions of a Homeschooler. Erica is a very talented woman and produces small batches of her fabric herself instead of connecting with a major player as she wants to be in control of what she does and how she does it. I can so get that and if I was a designer I would probably do the same thing.
When one of her fabric lines is released, you have to be waiting to grab it right away as she sells out in a matter of minutes. I was lucky enough to get the kit for the Sew Themed Quilt and had a great time making each of the blocks each week.
One thing I found interesting and different from any other quilt pattern I have made is that Erica has you cut and sew your borders and sashing first and then move on to making the blocks. At first I was like, "why would you do it that way", but once I got all my blocks completed, I was really glad the sashing and borders were already completed and ready to be added.
I stayed on track following the sewalong each week until I got to June and then I wanted to get it done and pushed to have it completed before the end of the month. The quilt top is 59"x74" and as of the posting of this blog I still have to actually quilt it on Miss Moxie, but hoping I get to complete that step this weekend.
In the meantime I wanted to go ahead and post this beautiful quilt. I also included some of my fabric blocks!
