There’s something special about finally finishing a quilt top that has quietly waited for you through a season of life.
This sweet little quilt is called Cozy, a pattern by Sherri McConnell of A Quilting Life, and it feels especially fitting for this chapter. The fabric collection is Delightfully Yours, designed by Sherri McConnell and Chelsi Stratton of Sherri and Chelsi. Every fabric in this quilt feels cheerful, comforting, and full of home — which is exactly what I think my heart has been searching for these past few months.
I actually started this quilt back in January. At the time, I had every intention of sewing steadily along and finishing it quickly. But life had other plans.
Between selling our house, downsizing, moving into the RV, and simply trying to settle into this new season of life, quilting quietly moved to the back burner for a while. The fabric sat patiently. The pieces waited. And honestly, there were days when I wondered when I would feel “settled” enough to truly create again.
But quilting has always been more than just making quilts for me.
It’s comfort.
It’s routine.
It’s creativity stitched into ordinary days.
And maybe most importantly… it’s where I feel most like myself.
This quilt became a reminder that stories don’t stop just because life changes directions. Sometimes they simply pause for a little while before picking back up again.
As I worked through this project, I took photos along the way — from laying out the fabrics and cutting the pieces, to seeing the little houses begin to take shape, to the moment the borders were finally added and the quilt top was complete. I love documenting the process because quilting is never just about the finished quilt. It’s about the journey each piece takes to get there.
And this one definitely had a journey.
There’s something symbolic about these tiny houses stitched together while we ourselves were transitioning into a completely different kind of home. Maybe that’s part of why this quilt speaks to me so much. Home isn’t always a place. Sometimes it’s simply the feeling you carry with you.
Now that the top is finally finished, it still needs to be quilted, but completing this stage feels like a personal victory. A gentle reminder that I’m slowly finding my rhythm again.
I’m trying hard to get back into the trenches of quilting regularly because I truly miss it — and yes, my Etsy shop could definitely use more quilts again too. But more than anything, I’ve missed the peace that comes from sitting down with fabric, thread, and a little bit of creativity after a long day.
This quilt feels like the beginning of that return.
Thank you for continuing to follow along with my quilting journey here at Sew Serenity Cottage, even through the slower seasons. The story is still being written… one stitch at a time. 💕
