A Bag for Adventures: Handmade Duffle for My Grandson

There’s something special about making something with your hands—especially when it’s for someone you love. I recently finished a project close to my heart: a handmade duffle bag for my grandson using the Patchwork Duffle Mini pattern by Knot & Thread Designs.

When choosing what to make, I wanted something that could grow with him. A duffle bag felt just right—something he could toss his treasures into now and pack for sleepovers, weekend trips, or sports practices as he gets older. It had to feel his—something that looked like a little boy would actually use and love.

I selected fabric with playful airplanes and a travel-inspired theme, perfect for sparking imagination and hinting at future adventures. To give it a bold, classic finish, I used black binding and sturdy black handles. The contrast gives the bag a timeless, boyish feel that I hope he’ll carry with pride.

Handmaking something for a child is about more than just fabric and thread—it’s a way to stitch love into something useful. I hope this little duffle bag becomes part of many fun memories ahead.
