This quilt feels like the perfect way to wrap up my Lori Holt applique' journey. It’s called Home Town, and it uses her fabric collection of the same name. At 74” x 84” it’s a big one (and probably my last this size 😉), but so worth it.
The quilt was part of a sew along using Lori Holt’s Sew Simple Shapes, with instructions shared on her blog and YouTube channel. The official sew along began in September 2023, but that happened just as we were preparing to move to Soddy Daisy. It wasn’t until almost a year later that I finally picked it up and started working on it.
I shared progress here on the blog along the way:
• Part 1 (Sept. 17, 2024): all 40 of the 5 ½” blocks finished
• Part 2 (Sept. 22, 2024): 8 of the 12 applique blocks completed
• Part 3 (Sept. 29, 2024): the final 4 applique blocks wrapped up
• Part 4 (Oct. 15, 2024): the quilt top is complete!
What drew me to this quilt from the very beginning were the little houses. Each one feels unique, yet together they create a cozy, welcoming neighborhood. They remind me of how homes may have looked years ago—simple, charming, and full of heart.
Finishing this quilt feels a little bittersweet, knowing it’s my last applique' quilt of Lori Holt’s. But I couldn’t have chosen a better design to end on. Home Town truly captures that warm, homey feeling I love most about quilting.
