Back in July, I jumped into a new block-of-the-month project featuring Sweetwater’s Hometown Christmas design—a cheerful mix of pieced blocks, embroidery, and the sweetest little applique' houses. Each month brought four new blocks: two pieced, one embroidery, and one applique'. I’ll be the first to admit the embroidery stretched my skills a bit. I kept hoping I'd see steady improvement as the months went by, but honestly… my last block looks a whole lot like my first. Still, when I step back and look at the finished quilt, I can’t help but smile. Imperfect stitches or not, it all came together beautifully.
I wrapped up the final four blocks in November and, over the last couple of days, assembled the quilt top—block by block, row by row—before adding a cozy scrappy border made from 130 randomly pieced 2½" squares. That border might be one of my favorite parts because it ties everything together in the happiest, most homespun way.
The very next morning, Miss Moxie (my longarm) worked her magic. I went with my trusty Knit 1 Purl 2 design again—it's quick, it's clean, and it has never let me down. After quilting, I added the binding, and just like that… she was finished. Now she’s hanging proudly on my wall, bringing Christmas cheer to my home for the rest of the season.
The fabrics are from Sweetwater’s Emmit and Ivy collection, and this whole project was such a joy from start to finish. The first BOM shipment included a layer cake that I used throughout the months to make the applique' houses. Each monthly package brought the instructions, fabric for the pieced blocks, and everything I needed for the embroidery.
But the detail that means the most? Our name and location stitched into the quilt—something we’ll always be able to look back on in future years, no matter where life takes us. A little reminder of this season, this home, and this chapter.
