Vintage Sampler Christmas Quilt

Back in January, the Vintage Christmas sew along officially kicked off—but since I planned to use the leftover fabrics from my Quilted Snowman quilt, it was March before I actually jumped in. Once I finally started, I caught up quickly and settled into the rhythm of making four blocks each month. By the time November rolled around, I decided to power through the final two blocks so I could move this cheerful quilt from “in progress” to “finished.”

She made her way onto Miss Moxie during the first week of December, but then I did what I do best… procrastinated on the binding. Eventually, though, I stitched down that last inch, and now she’s officially complete.

This delightful sampler is a Lori Holt design from her Vintage Christmas book, originally released in 2018 with an entirely different fabric line. For this year’s sew along, Lori’s Hometown Holiday collection was used—the same fabrics I used for The Quilted Snowman quilt. If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that when you purchase a kit from Fat Quarter Shop, you’ll always have plenty of fabric left for future projects. This quilt was the perfect way to use up those beautiful leftovers.

In total, Vintage Christmas includes 42 blocks, each one finishing at 6". The border is uniquely pieced with adorable bows, and sashing with cornerstones ties everything together. Working with 6" blocks means working with a lot of tiny pieces, and while I love how the finished quilt looks, I’m not entirely sure I’m eager to tackle another quilt with this many small components anytime soon. It definitely kept me on my toes!

But in the end, the soft colors, the festive motifs, and the joy stitched into each little block made it all worth it. Another project wrapped up—and just in time for the holiday season.
